Commissioned by Esplanade and premiering in Singapore, SoftMachine: The Return by Choy Ka Fai brings together a decade of dance making through the critical lens of five Asian artists, including Rianto (Indonesia), Surjit Nongmeikapam (India), Xiao Ke x Zihan (China), and Yuya Tsukahara (Japan).
Structured as a performance that moves between lecture, demonstration, documentary, and four solo experiences, the work returns to the body as an evolving archive, tracing biography, politics, and the boundaries between presence and absence in contemporary Asian dance.
