“LIVES ADRIFT: Alluvium and Delta” - Film Screening and Discussion

Saturday, October 28, 2023
3:00 PM  7:00 PM
Phnom PenhCambodia

Alluvium, derived from the Latin roots "ad" meaning forward and "luere" meaning to wash, is composed of layers of silt, gravel, and clay that drift aimlessly along water currents. When these particles eventually reach the shore, they form fertile riverbeds. Despite being vital for sustaining a healthy ecosystem and supporting livelihoods, alluvium remains elusive, unpredictable, and disconnected from the deltas it is supposed to nourish.

LIVES ADRIFT, jointly curated by Anti-Archive, an award-winning film production company based in Cambodia, and A Sông, a Vietnam-based art collective, attempts to observe and examine our lives as alluvium.

The event showcases a screening of short films from seven independent filmmakers: Danech San, Mai Huyền Chi, Sreylin Meas, Lê Ngọc Duy, Kanitha Tith, and Trương Minh Quý. Through panel discussion and conversation with the audience, they will explore the importance of resilience and maintaining a forward-looking mindset in the face of uncertainty and our ever-changing connections to people and places.
