Finding Bundusan: Search for the source of Art & Self | Jesse Joy
Bundusan (lepironia articulata) is a type of cyperaceae that grows in water-logged areas and harvested by the Kadazan and Dusuns of Sabah to be woven into mats but now seemingly on the brink of extinction. Finding Bundusan is a documentary film that is not just about looking for the plant itself but also discovering a cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge through family and the community.
Speaker, Jesse Joy is a Sabahan embroidery artist based in Kuala Lumpur. His embroideries are responses towards events happening around him, self-reflections and aspects of Sabahan life. His work often includes used and found objects to reduce the environmental impact of art-marking. Finding Bundusan is his first documentary film.
