Hoang Duong Cam completed his studies at Hanoi University of Fine Arts in 1996 and has become one of the most active contemporary artists in Vietnam today. His works usually pick one or several mediums; painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, video and digital photography. Hoang’s works are deeply concerned with the human conditions, the relations that might exist between one’s inner and outside worlds.
Hoang’s notable recent exhibitions include the two-person exhibition ‘Between two mysteries’ at Galerie Quynh, Vietnam (2016) and group exhibitions such as ‘SUNSHOWER: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia 1980s to Now’ at The National Art Center, Japan (2017), ‘Eagles Fly, Sheep Flock: Biographical Imprints – Artistic Practices in Southeast Asia’, Singapore (2015), and ‘Vietnam Now: Changing Society at Canvas International Art’, Netherlands (2014). In addition, Hoang has also participated in collaborative projects such as ‘Camamoto’, in 2009 with conceptual artist Takayuki Yamamoto, ‘Rokovoko’ in the first Singapore Biennale, and ‘Ạart Magazine’, in 2006, with artist collective Morgas Station. He is the co-founder of the visual experiment publication XEM.
