How the Crocodile got his Teeth
Yii Kah Hoe and Antares
As created for narrator and wind ensemble
Excerpted from TANAH TUJUH, a Temuan folktale retold by Antares.
14 minutes
Based on an Orang Asli folktale originally shared by Antares, renowned Malaysian composer Yii Kah Hoe was invited in a
commission to create this performance piece of “How the Crocodile got his teeth”. Led by NAFA’s own Head of Winds, Joost Flach, this unusual
performance incorporates music and drama to unfurl an immersive experience of sound, atmosphere and legend. For the delight of the opening
night, an ensemble comprising NAFA alumni, a handful of professional players as well as current NAFA students will hark us back to an
indigenous landscape in the peninsula, sharing with us the secrets and smiles from the old world.
