Both Dead and Alive

Syahmin Huda Binte Yusman

Both Dead and Alive is a re-imagination of our shared relationship with the sea. Similar to the nature of our seascapes, the video presentation will offer a different perspective on the regenerative cycle of our bodies through sequences alluding to the notions of destruction and renewal at the same time. It aims to highlight the ongoing spiritual disposition in relation to our environment and bring forth new modes of perception. When we observe our seascapes in-depth, we begin to build a more intimate relationship with these spaces and better understand the tensions that exist. Why do we visualise or speculate on the continuous creation and destruction of our environments? How do we bridge esoteric traditions or forgotten beliefs surrounding our ecology? Within the presentation, texts (with hints of the Malayic language), actions and moments of our constant state of departure whether- physical, emotional or spiritual are captured and discussed.
