Noor Iskandar

Noor Iskandar is an interdisciplinary artist, writer and adjunct lecturer based in Singapore. He earned his Master in Arts (Research) at Nanyang Technological University School of Art, Design and Media after having graduated from the same institution with an Honours in Fine Arts majoring in Photography and Digital Imaging. His works have been exhibited and published both in Singapore as well as internationally including London, Valencia, Shah Alam, Pingyao, Belfast and Bandung. In 2018 and 2020, he self-produced his poetry collections entitled For(god) and I Love Too Quietly respectively.

Noor's research and artistic practice are often a/r/t/ographic in nature, grounded in image culture, (text)ile and the archives. They thread on the lines of spirituality and sentient spaces; looking at deeper nuances of being like losing, death and forgetting. They are framed within philosophical inquiry aimed to evoke alternative ways of seeing and feelings. They too embark on tangents of the pilgrimage, the artist as flaneur-cartographer, that celebrates liminal spaces, the in-betweenness ; apart / apart, intimate/intimidate, exit/exist.

All in all, Noor aims for his pedagogical style to be contextually transformative, liberatory and collaborative enabling migrations from periphery to center; teasing out conversations left to the margins such as Faith and Art. Presently, Noor attempts to situate all these strands of inquiry within this personal project entitled A New Sacred.
