Why, Sayang?

By Ng Jasmine and Putri Erina Firtiyana

Touch is a universal language for us to connect with one each other, however since it requires proximity, it has become a conundrum in the context of the pandemic.

Not being able to touch is in ways actually a more intimate human process than being able to touch, as it has changed our perception of touch and it is only now that we realise the importance of this and are desperately looking for ways to be intimate once again.

This 1 hour 40 mins collaborative performance studies and explores ways to be intimate with each other in the absence of touch. It looks deeper into the tension within the relationship between two people and the Self. The non-existing or existing fear and paranoia and how it affects our trust in another. All is made more evident and manifest by the inability to be physically close, as physical distance comes with an emotional distance that we might not be aware of.

So here comes the question, how can we be physically distant but emotionally intimate?
