Kathabi is a dance theatre piece that tells a story of the origin of weaving of the Itneg Tribe. Katha means to create and Habi means to weave.
The Itnegs are situated at Abra, the Northern mountainous part of Philippines. They are non-Christians and believe in the spirit world. The relation between the spirit and tribes informs their way of life. This connection is narrated in this ballet performance represented by 5 main characters: Sinulid (The Divine), Ama (The Father), Ina (The Mother), Dolimaman (The Daughter) and Wagadan (The Warrior).
Pia was born and raised in the Philippines. She started her training in classical ballet at the age of 6 followed by modern dance and contemporary at 9 with ACTS Manila, Philippines. At the young age of 10, she started competing both nationally and internationally, winning first place at the latest Cultural Center of the Philippines National Ballet Competition 2018. In August of 2020, she began her study in the Diploma in Dance Programme at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) under the "NAFA Talent Scholarship". While in NAFA, she has received training under David Zeitner, Yarra Ileto, Qi Huan, Xia Haiying, Filomar Tariao, and Goh Shou Yi. She has also worked with choreographers such as Zhou Zihao, Lim Moi Kim, Yenny Widjaja, and Filomar Tariao.
